ConSeal to 8Signs Rule Converter

This utility is specifically designed to convert your ConSeal ruleset file(s) to 8Signs Firewall ruleset file(s). Please take a moment to completely read the information and instructions below before using the conversion utility.

Do I have to uninstall ConSeal before installing 8Signs Firewall for evaluation?
While you can safely have both programs installed on your computer, you should NOT have both firewalls running at the same time. Doing so will cause problems, and neither firewall will work correctly. Before installing 8Signs, disable ConSeal by clicking on the Rules menu, then unchecking the "Firewall is Up" check box. Your should also ensure that ConSeal will not start automatically upon reboot. If you are using Windows 9x/ME, under the File menu in ConSeal, uncheck the "Start Automatically When Windows Starts" option. If you are running on NT/2K, set the ConSeal PC Firewall Service in Control Panel-->Services to Manual.

If I export my ConSeal rules in order to use this conversion utility, does this remove them from ConSeal?
No, the ConSeal export function merely creates a copy of the rules for a specific device and places them in a file.

How to Use the Rules Conversion Utility
[1] Export your rules from ConSeal by performing the following steps:
  • In the main ConSeal window, click on the Rules menu
  • Click on the All Network Devices tab, or the tab for a particular adapter
  • Highlight all of the rules by clicking on the first rule, then shift-clicking on the last rule
  • Right-click anywhere in the highlighted area, choose Export and enter in a file name where the rules will be saved. If you have separate rulesets for each adapter, name the rules file something that will make sense to you later (i.e. LAN.fws or internet.fws). Be sure to leave the default file extension (.fws) intact when saving the rules.
  • Follow the above steps for each adapter that you have rules for. If you are running ConSeal with a single ruleset, you will only have to do this once on the All Network Devices tab.
[2] Click on the Browse button below to locate the first rules file that you saved.

[3] Enter your email address. Your new 8Signs rules file will be emailed to this address so be sure to type carefully.

[4] Click the Submit Rules button.

[5] Repeat steps [2] to [4] for each rules file.
