  2. Double click this file, this will start the install shield wizard.
  3. The Install Shield Wizard will ask you to specify a location on your local drive to install FTP Voyager to. You can simply accept the default path: c:\program files\RhinoSoft.com\FTP Voyager
  4. Setup will now copy files to your local drive and will create icons in the start menu.

Configure FTP Voyager® for Your Network

Once setup has finished copying files the FTP Voyager Connection Setup Wizard will be displayed.

Note: If you connect to the Internet using a modem, or are not behind a firewall you can simply click the OK button at this point.

If you connect to the Internet through a firewall/proxy server, FTP Voyager has the best firewall/proxy support in the industry. You may notice your proxy server name is already in the Proxy Server Name or IP address text box. FTP Voyager attempts to read your firewall/proxy server settings from both Netscape and Internet Explorer. If FTP Voyager can find these setting it will automatically fill in the appropriate boxes. You will simply need to review these setting.

If FTP Voyager did not find your firewall/proxy setting or if these settings are incorrect you will need to specify them manually. You may need to contact your network administrator regarding the address and type of that use. The following is a brief description each box in Connection Setup Wizard. Also please see the linked articles for proxy server specific information.

  • Proxy Name or IP Address -If you’re using a proxy server, enter your proxy server name or IP address here.

  • Internet Access Type - allows you to choose how you want to access the Internet. The following are the options:

  • Direct Internet Access (default) – access the Internet directly without going through a proxy server. Also, use this option to access internal FTP sites, or if you access both the Internet and are required to go through a proxy, use the Advanced options for your site.

  • Proxy Server User ID - If your proxy server requires a User ID and you’re using the "OPEN", "SITE", or "SOCKS4" proxy method, you may specify a User ID for the proxy server. If you don’t want to use one, leave this field blank. Proxy Server Password - If you select the "UserID = userid@site" Internet Access Type, you are allowed to enter a password for your proxy server. If you leave this field blank, no password will be used.

  • PASV Mode - Check this box to always use PASV mode when connecting to an FTP site, regardless of the site setting. Some proxy servers require PASV mode to work properly, if you experience problems downloading or listing directories enable this option. If the site bypasses using the proxy, the PASV mode specified for the site is used.
  • Port Number - Enter the port number you want to use for all FTP Sites. If you enter a number here, other than 0, it will be used as the port number for all sites. FTP Sites can "override" this value, by having a port number other than 0
  • UserID=user@site Delimiter - If your proxy server is of the type "UserID = userid@site", but expects to see a different character than ‘@’ (such as ‘#’) enter it here
