- Do I need to back up any files on the MDaemon server before installing the Outlook Connector?
- No, this is not necessary. However, for good measure, before doing any work on your server it is always a good idea to make a copy of your MDaemon installation folder.
- Do I need to back up Outlook PST files on my users’ machines before installing the Outlook Connector?
- No, existing PST files will not be affected by the installation of the Outlook Connector. However, taking a backup of important files is always good practice before making changes on any machine.
- Where does the Outlook Connector get installed?
- Outlook Connector consists of two components. The Outlook Connector enabler is installed onto the MDaemon server. In addition to installing the necessary server-side components of Outlook Connector, the enabler gives you some extra menu items and controls within MDaemon to allow you to administer Outlook Connector. The Outlook Connector Outlook Plugin is installed onto each client workstation. This integrates Outlook Connector into Outlook, which allows the user to create and synchronize shared folders.
- How do I install the Outlook Connector on the MDaemon server?
- To install the server-side portion of the Outlook Connector, simply download and run the installation file. You will find the Outlook Connector install file here.
- How do I install the Outlook Connector plugin on the client workstations?
- Complete client-side installation instructions can be found here.
- I’ve created a new profile and connected with the Outlook Connector where has all of my email gone?! (I previously used POP to collect my messages)
- As you were previously using POP to collect your messages, your emails will have been removed from the MDaemon server and stored in your local Outlook. You will need to import your email from your old PST into your new Outlook Connector account as follows:
- Click File.
- Click Import and Export.
- Choose Outlook Data File...
- Select from Import from another program of file.
- Click Next.
- Choose Personal Folder File.
- Click Next.
- Select the PST file from your last profile. By default it should open the default PST file directory allowing you to select your PST file. If not, you will need to browse to the correct directory to select the file.
- Select the option for Do not import duplicates.
- Click Next.
- Select Personal Folders from the 'Select the folder fo import from:' so all folders are imported and check the option for Include subfolders.
- Select Import items into the same folder in: and choose Outlook Connector.
- Click Finish.
- I currently use IMAP to access my mail. What will happen to my messages when I connect with a new Outlook Connector profile?
- As soon as you connect to the MDaemon server using your new Outlook Connector profile, all of your messages and mail folders will be visible. No additional steps are required.
- Once I have an Outlook Connector profile set up and functioning, how do I share a folder (i.e. Contacts, Calendar, mail folder, etc.) for other users to access?
- To share a folder, right-click on the folder, select Properties, then click on the Folder Permissions tab to give other users the right to access your folder.
- What are Public Folders, and how are they created?
- Public Folders are folders which are not directly linked to any specific user and are used for things such as centralized contacts, company or department-wide calendars, or resource (i.e. conference room) scheduling. Public folders can be created and configured on the MDaemon server by going under the Setup menu to Shared Folders | Public Folders tab.
